The Faculty of Science Building is a new building at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, which is home to 36 research labs, 27 teaching labs, and 25 common area spaces. Research conducted in the labs is in the following fields: Pharmaceutical Technology, Electron Microscopy, Immunobiology, and Environmental Biotechnology, among others.

The Faculty of Science Building is the latest addition to Pontificia Universidad Javeriana’s plan to build and renovate a series of its buildings, increasing the resource efficiency of its campus.

The Faculty of Science Building has received an EDGE Advanced certificate from CAMACOL.

Technical Solutions

Energy

External shading devices, insulation of the roof, ground source heat and variable speed drive pumps, a high efficiency boiler for water heating, energy-saving lighting for external areas, photoelectric sensors to harvest daylight, solar photovoltaics, and smart energy meters for electrical energy.

Water

Low-flow showerheads and faucets, efficient flush water closets, and water-efficient urinals and faucets for kitchen sinks.

Materials

Composite in-situ concrete and steel deck for the floor and roof, in-situ trough concrete for the roof, honeycomb clay blocks with plaster on both sides and cement fibre boards on metal studs for the internal walls, in-situ reinforced external walls, and vinyl flooring.
