Tángara is an apartment complex located in Ciudad Country urban development zone north of Jamundí, Colombia. The project consists of 154 houses with an average space of 80 square meters. Tángara has been designed, promoted and built by Jaramillo Mora Constructora S.A., a Colombian real estate development company committed to sustainable construction and climate change mitigation. 

With this focus in mind, energy and water-saving technologies were incorporated into the design, construction and internal processes of the building. External shading devices, roof insulation, reflective paint, natural ventilation and LED lighting reduce the building’s energy consumption, while water-efficient plumbing fixtures reduce its water use.

Tángara has received a Preliminary EDGE Advanced Certificate from CAMACOL.

MARN Despacho Superior is an office building part of the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources of Guatemala, located in central Guatemala City. In its role as the public authority overseeing environmental matters, the ministry has directed actions towards sustainability through the Integrated Green/Sustainable Building Program, including the application of the EDGE Certification, which has been a mechanism for learning, research and recognition of the application and achievement of objectives in the reduction of consumption, energy water and proper management of materials and waste.

The project consists of a retrofit of an existing 408 square meter office building which is part of the historic city center of Guatemala City and which has been designated as a structure of national and cultural heritage. The project will serve as a pioneer in the retrofit of existing buildings in this category.

Through the use of energy-efficient technologies such as reflective paint for external walls, an energy-efficient HVAC system, LED lighting, water-efficient plumbing features and the re-use of existing structures such as floor, walls, and roof, the project was able to significantly reduce energy and water use and particularly energy embodied in materials.

BluHomes Gakakan, is an eco-friendly housing project in Caloocan City developed by Aztala Corporation, a local real estate developer. The project is the  third development under the sustainability-focused BluHomes brand, named after the Gakakan Tree, a native and endangered tree in the Philippines, one of which is planted in front of each home. The development consists of 12 units with a floor area of 79 square meters. Perforated pavers with grass were used for sidewalk instead of plain concrete to reduce thermal mass inside the subdivision.

To meet international standards for resource efficiency, energy and water-saving technologies were incorporated into the design, construction and internal processes of the building. Reflective paint, roof insulation, solar photovoltaics and an LED lighting reduce the units’ energy use, while water-efficient plumbing fixtures reduce water consumption resulting in a more sustainable construction and a lower carbon footprint.

The project was developed by the Colegio Sagrado Corazón Montemayor, a local Catholic educational institution, offering classes for all levels from preschool through high school.

Through the use of state-of-the-art technologies such as external shading devices, energy-saving LED lightbulbs with occupancy sensors in bath- and classrooms, and water-efficient plumbing features, the project was able to significantly reduce its energy and water consumption, as well as energy embodied in materials, resulting in a more sustainable construction project and a reduced carbon footprint.

The Massmart Distribution Centre is a 54.000 square meter logistics hub located in Durban North, a suburban part of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The project has a mixed purpose, consisting mostly of warehouse space with a section to be used as office space for Massmart, a South African retail company and subsidiary of the American Walmart chain. Massmart Distribution Centre was developed by JT Ross Property Group, a local property developer with a focus on developing large-scale commercial and logistics projects for national and international corporate clients.

To meet international standards for resource efficiency, energy and water-saving technologies were incorporated into the design, construction and internal processes of the building. Reflective paint, low-E coated glass, LED lighting and a solar photovoltaics system covering 34% of projected electricity consumption reduce the distribution centre’s energy use, while water-efficient plumbing fixtures reduce its water use. Altogether these savings will not just help lowering operational expenses but also yield a more sustainable project overall with a significant reduction in its carbon footprint.
