Candlewood Crescent
RPP Developments built 188 two-bedroom green homes for the local affordable housing market in Johannesburg with its new Candlewood Crescent Development. International Housing Solutions (IHS), a South African private equity firm focused on the development of affordable housing, will acquire the units as rental stock from RPP Developments.
Candlewood Crescent is expected to realize savings of almost R600,000 a year by applying EDGE-certified efficiencies. Water and energy savings will be achieved by use of solar hot water collectors, smart meters and low-flow plumbing fixtures. Smaller windows and roofs constructed with corrugated zinc sheets will ensure optimal energy efficiency contributing to electricity savings. The certification of Ravenswood marks a significant milestone, not only for IHS and the Green Building Council South Africa (the certifier for the project) but also for the South Africa residential property sector and its journey towards becoming more sustainable.
Candlewood Crescent has received a final EDGE certification from Green Building Council South Africa.

*Part of the energy efficiency percentage may be associated with virtual energy for comfort depending on the presence of heating and cooling systems. Note that virtual energy does not contribute savings to utility bills.
