GMR Fulfillment Center, a part of GMR Group in Hyderabad, is a warehouse development located adjacent to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad, Telangana, India. The project consists of a total area of 94,574.6 square meters out of which 51,154 square meters are designated as warehouse space.
As part of GMR Group’s sustainable buildings initiative and its commitment for a sustainable tomorrow, the GMR Fulfillment Center was designed and built as an example of resource efficiency in the warehouse sector.
Energy-efficient HVAC systems with LED lighting for internal and external spaces and insulation for the roof reduce the building’s energy use, while water-efficient plumbing and a black water treatment and recycling system were installed to reduce the warehouse’s water use. Additionally, a solar photovoltaics system covering 60.5% of the facility’s annual electricity use was installed, providing further energy savings and reducing the warehouse’s dependency on the grid.
Through the use of state-of-the-art construction materials such as AAC (Autoclaved Aerated Concrete Blocks) for internal and external walls, concrete and timber for flooring and slabs, steel sheets on steel rafters and steel profile cladding for external walls the project was further able to achieve a substantial reduction in the energy embodied in materials, resulting in a lower carbon footprint and a more sustainable building design.

Technical Solutions
Energy
Reduced window to wall ratio, insulation of the roof, energy efficient HVAC systems along with VSDs (variable speed drives) for AHUs (air handling units), LED lighting for internal and external spaces, and solar photovoltaics.
Water
Aerators and auto shut-off faucets, dual flush water closets, water-less urinals and a black water treatment and recycling system for toilet flushing and landscaping requirements.
Materials
Timber for floor slabs, steel (zinc or galvanized iron) sheets on steel rafters for the roof, AAC blocks for external and internal walls, steel profile cladding for external walls and finished concrete flooring.
