Les Residences Vesta

Les Residences Vesta

EDGE Advanced

Developed by Panamera, Les Residences Vesta offers affordable homes within a secured community in the Croix-des-Bouquets area near Port-au-Prince. In a country that has experienced a severe housing shortage since the 2010 earthquake, Les Residences Vesta presents a unique opportunity for Haitian families to gain the security of homeownership with safe, resilient and environmentally-friendly homes. The 78 affordable homes are designed to incorporate modern touches and a sense of community-living, while also providing a tranquil escape from the city.

The homes at Les Residences Vesta help residents conserve energy and water, ultimately leading to lower utility bills. The homes are expected to reduce energy use by over 70 percent with energy-efficient features such as solar panels and energy-saving lighting. The homes also have water-efficient fixtures to conserve water, while construction materials such as UPVC window frames reduce embodied energy in materials by nearly 70 percent. Passive design features have helped Panamera to develop Residences Vesta at a lower cost than it would have required to build conventionally. Utility costs of each home are expected to be reduced by approximately 80 percent, helping residents save hundreds of dollars per year.

The project is part of the Haiti Home Ownership and Mortgage Expansion (HOME) project, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), to provide affordable mortgages and resource-efficient homes for Haitians. HOME is managed by the World Council of Credit Unions and the Affordable Housing Institute. The project is changing the housing landscape in Haiti by providing families with the possibility of owning their own home, a dream that was once considered unattainable. Other EDGE-certified projects made possible by HOME include Villa FloraVillage la Fontaine and Domaine de Noailles. Les Residences Vesta has received a preliminary EDGE certificate from GBCI.
