Mbiri & Tsogolo Halls of Residence at KUHeS Lilongwe Campus
Mbiri & Tsogolo Halls of Residence is a student accommodation project located at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) Lilongwe Campus in Lilongwe, Malawi. The project was developed by Old Mutual Investment Group Limited (Malawi), a leading fund manager in Malawi.
The building will provide high quality accommodation for undergraduate, masters and PhD students from the university.
The developer, Old Mutual Investment Group Limited (Malawi) has set the goal to reach EDGE certification for their entire student housing project under an Infrastructure Fund. This is to ensure efficient use of resources for these buildings going forward, and to reduce their overall carbon footprint.
The Mbiri & Tsogolo Halls of Residence are designed with 100% LED light fittings and solar hot water collectors to serve approximately 36% of the building’s annual hot water demand. Water efficiency will be achieved through low-flow bathroom and kitchen tap fittings and low-flow shower-heads. Embodied energy in the materials will be minimised by utilising concrete blocks for the walls and finished concrete flooring.
Mbiri & Tsogolo Halls of Residence at KUHeS Lilongwe Campus has achieved Final EDGE Certification from Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI).
