Sheraton Belitung Resort
Sheraton Belitung Resort is an eco-concept resort development on Belitung Island, Indonesia. Bordered by pure white silica sand, the Kaolin lagoon and lush flora, the resort’s surroundings offer rich biodiversity. Guests of the resort will have the opportunity to learn more about the island’s ecosystem through a variety of activities, including eco-trekking, diving and seasonal turtle-watching.
The resort will utilize resource-efficient design features and technologies to reduce its environmental impact and lower its carbon footprint. LED lighting, a variable refrigerant cooling system and a heat pump for hot water generation will be installed to reduce the resort’s energy use by almost half. Dual-flush water closets, low-flow showerheads and water-efficient landscaping will be used to reduce the resort’s water use.
Sheraton Belitung Resort will be one of the first completed projects in the Tanjung Kelayang Special Economic Zone, one of 10 tourism zones designated by the Indonesian government. Developer PT Setra Gita Nusantara designed Sheraton Belitung Resort to serve as an example of resource efficiency for future development on the island.
Sheraton Belitung Resort has received an EDGE Advanced certificate from Green Building Council Indonesia.

Less Embodied Energy in Materials
External shading devices, insulation of the roof, natural ventilation for the corridors, a variable refrigerant (VRV) cooling system, a heat pump for hot water, and energy-saving lighting in internal, external and back-of-house spaces.
Dual-flush water closets in guestrooms and all other bathrooms, low-flow showerheads and water-efficient urinals, dishwashers, kitchen faucets and landscaping.
In-situ reinforced concrete for the floors, clay roofing tiles and steel sheets on steel rafters for the roof, plasterboards on metal studs for internal walls and cellular light weight concrete blocks for external walls.
*Part of the energy efficiency percentage may be associated with virtual energy for comfort depending on the presence of heating and cooling systems. Note that virtual energy does not contribute savings to utility bills.
