The CUBE


The Cube is a commercial complex located in Nairobi, Kenya with a striking full glass façade and cantilevered roof over an open outdoor space.

The project tackled sustainability in the early phases of the project by carrying out building simulation modeling to assess daylighting, glare and ventilation impacts to optimize the building performance.

Given the large amount of glass desired by the designers, extra focus was given to lighting efficiency, high performance glazing and solar PV. Ultra-efficient water fixtures were used to minimize water consumption proving how significant and impact this initiative can make. Beyond EDGE the building will have a large focus on sustainable waste management.

The Mahakam Training Center SPS site was built in 2000. Pertamina Hulu Mahakam, Indonesia’s state-owned energy company, uses the facility for training purposes.

Aligned with its commitment to conserve natural resources in its operational and supporting activities, Pertamina Hulu Mahakam built resource-efficient technologies into the office building. A variable refrigerant volume cooling system and energy-saving lighting were installed to reduce energy use, while dual-flush water closets and low-flow faucets were installed to reduce water use. These resulting energy and water savings also help reduce the building’s operating costs.

The Mahakam Training Center SPS has received Final EDGE Certification by the Green Building Council of Indonesia.

Equites Park Riverfields is a mixed office and operations complex located in the Riverfields development area, a fast-growing logistics node in Kempton Park, Johannesburg, South Africa. It is comprised of three workshops, a machine test track, and head office.

Equites Park was developed by Equites Property Fund for Sandvik, a global mining and technology company. All four sub-projects comprising Equites Park Riverfields have achieved preliminary EDGE Advanced certification, incorporating resource-efficient technologies such as roof insulation, low-e glassing, energy-saving lightbulbs, and water-efficient plumbing fixtures as well as solar photovoltaics covering 55% of total energy use. These technologies will lower the facility’s operating costs as well as reduce its carbon footprint.

Starting in mid-2019, the company embarked on the remodeling of Edificio Matriz, ProCredit Ecuador’s head office in Quito, with the goal of mitigating its environmental impact. The project has achieved EDGE Advanced certification by making use of resource-efficient technologies such as reflective paint for external walls, water-efficient plumbing fixtures, energy-saving lightbulbs and light controls for public spaces, smart meters and a photovoltaics system covering 26% of total energy use. The extensive use of existing walls further reduced the resource impact of construction, particularly on energy embodied in materials, lowering the carbon footprint of the project.
