Located in the mountainous city of Pereira, Mukava del Viento Torre 3 is one of three buildings that comprise the Mukava del Viento residential project. The 12-story apartment building has 60 units, each with an outdoor patio to enjoy the stunning views and lush green landscape surrounding the property. Residents have additional outdoor space, a swimming pool and a park area to enjoy the outdoors. From the building’s inception, developers ASUL S.A.S. carefully planned how to take advantage of the geographical location of the project, which is located four degrees from the equator line. The building is strategically designed to maximize natural lighting and conserve energy. Energy-saving features include energy-efficient air-conditioning and external shading devices to keep the units cool. The building also saves water with the help of low-flow showerheads and faucets and dual-flush water closets. Situated in the heart of Istanbul, the new MINT-E5 residential building represents a new trend of sustainable buildings in a rapidly changing urban area. Developed by Hun Inc. and designed by RMJM, MINT E-5 is a high-rise residential building comprised of 102 one and two-bedroom apartments. Conveniently located to public transportation, schools and retail shopping, MINT-E5 offers an ideal location for residents who wish to live in the center of Istanbul. MINT-E5 is a member of the MINT group of properties, which cater to the demand for environmentally-sensitive urban lifestyles, where residents can lower their carbon footprint and save on utility costs. The developers of MINT properties are committed to building green, as seen in previous projects such as MINT Caglayan.

The exterior of MINT E-5 has high-performance glass to restrict the energy required for heating and cooling. The B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology, located in Chennai, has prepared students in India to pursue careers in engineering, science and technology for over 32 years. In addition to inspiring innovation among its students, the university has also chosen to improve its campus by adding green buildings. The new women’s residences and staff quarters have many green features that have all been implemented at no additional cost to the university. When utility bills are taken into consideration, the result is a positive sum gain.

The university has many green features such as solar hot water collectors and energy-saving lighting systems to reduce energy consumption, and UPVC windows to reduce embodied energy in materials. Located in a region that experiences frequent droughts and shortages of water, the university can also conserve its supply of water with the help of low-flow showerheads and faucets and dual flush water closets. The university hopes to use EDGE for future buildings on the campus, to further its resource-efficient and environmentally-friendly approach.

Located in the San Borja district of Lima, the Vía Boyle apartments offer families the chance to live a modern and sustainable lifestyle. The multi-family apartment complex has five floors with 12 three-bedroom apartments and one four-bedroom apartment. Each of the units, which are designed not to need air conditioning, have an interior patio called the Zen Terrace, which opens to a courtyard with natural light and a garden providing residents with a peaceful space to enjoy their home. Developers AE + BE S.A.C, members of the Origin Group, carefully selected materials that would consume less embodied energy, including autoclaved aerated concrete blocks for walls.

The City of Lima awarded Vía Boyle with a “Bonificación de Altura,” or height bonus” incentive, for its sustainability features. Buildings that are constructed under green industry standards are allowed to be built higher than the regulated height in Lima, prompting smart developers such as AE + BE S.A.C to seek green building certifications. Pionono Green

Pionono Green, a project by Fenix Construcciones SA located in the Savannah north of Bogota, has been EDGE-certified by CAMACOL. More than 400 homes will offer residents utility savings while reducing impacts on the environment.

Pionono Green is located in the Savannah north of Bogotá, less than 30 kilometers from the capital, in the municipality of Sopó. The residential complex consists of 416 housing units that offers inhabitants a quiet environment surrounded by nature. Significant energy and water savings will result from the use of LED lighting, reflective paint, external shading on windows, low-flow faucets and water-saving toilets, among other green measures. By designing the project in a resource-efficient way, including the use of honeycomb clay blocks for the walls, the carbon footprint will also be reduced.

The project is being developed by Fenix Construcciones SA, a company with more than 38 years of experience and a leader in Colombia’s construction sector. Pionono Green is part of the Pionono Condominium Club, a mega project comprised of six areas with 2,500 homes, shops and offices, creating a compact and efficient development. The Julio Prestes apartment complex provides a green living environment for residents without sacrificing quality. Developed by the Brazilian government’s PPP Habitacional, a public-private housing partnership, the apartments house mostly low-income residents as a part of the government’s mission to provide more affordable housing in the central region of Brazil. Located in São Paolo, the Julio Prestes apartments consist of eight residential buildings with a total of 1,202 units, of which 914 have been EDGE certified. 1,130 of the housing units are affordable housing reserved for families with lower incomes, while the remaining 72 units are for middle-income families. The complex has indoor recreation areas, a sports court and extensive green areas for residents to enjoy.

Below the residential units, each tower has shops with a total of 67 retail spaces. The complex includes a nursery for up to 200 children and the Tom Jobim School of Music for over 1,300 students. In addition to providing a multi-faceted community, the energy-efficient Julio Prestes complex also offers its residents the opportunity to reduce their environmental footprint and pay fewer utility bills. With the help of less glazing on the facades and low-flow showerheads and faucets, Julio Prestes conserves energy and water and reduces living costs for residents. The apartments also save a significant amount of embodied energy in materials, with a reduction of up to 57% due to the energy-efficient materials used to construct the floors, roof and walls.
