Hotel Sun is an eco-friendly city hotel located in Nicosia, Cyprus. Resource-efficient features and technologies were chosen based on life cycle cost analysis, to minimize the environmental impact and total cost of ownership, meeting the owner’s main requirement to have a truly sustainable facility.

The building envelope was designed to optimize the overall energy performance of the building. Construction materials were selected from locally available and low embodied energy type alternatives. A solar thermal system, supplemented by a heat pump, meets the hot water demand all year round. Air conditioning is provided by an energy efficient chiller heat pump system with heat recovery ventilation. Lighting utilizes LED technology and VFD’s are used extensively on fans and pumps. Low water consumption is achieved in guest rooms and public areas through careful control of water pressure and low-flow fittings. An off-site solar PV system generates sufficient electrical energy to offset most of the electrical demand of the hotel.

The CUBE


The Cube is a commercial complex located in Nairobi, Kenya with a striking full glass façade and cantilevered roof over an open outdoor space.

The project tackled sustainability in the early phases of the project by carrying out building simulation modeling to assess daylighting, glare and ventilation impacts to optimize the building performance.

Given the large amount of glass desired by the designers, extra focus was given to lighting efficiency, high performance glazing and solar PV. Ultra-efficient water fixtures were used to minimize water consumption proving how significant and impact this initiative can make. Beyond EDGE the building will have a large focus on sustainable waste management.

Equites Park was developed by Equites Property Fund for Sandvik, a global mining and technology company. All four sub-projects comprising Equites Park Riverfields have achieved preliminary EDGE Advanced certification, incorporating resource-efficient technologies such as roof insulation, low-e glassing, energy-saving lightbulbs, and water-efficient plumbing fixtures as well as solar photovoltaics covering 55% of total energy use. These technologies will lower the facility’s operating costs as well as reduce its carbon footprint.

Banco ProCredit is an international, commercial bank with a development focus, specializing in socially responsible banking.

Starting in mid-2019, the company embarked on the remodeling of Edificio Matriz, ProCredit Ecuador’s head office in Quito, with the goal of mitigating its environmental impact. The project has achieved EDGE Advanced certification by making use of resource-efficient technologies such as reflective paint for external walls, water-efficient plumbing fixtures, energy-saving lightbulbs and light controls for public spaces, smart meters and a photovoltaics system covering 26% of total energy use. The extensive use of existing walls further reduced the resource impact of construction, particularly on energy embodied in materials, lowering the carbon footprint of the project.

A prefabricated tiny house using recycled Tetra Pack Cartons as wall and roof material, the Tetra Pod brings together unique design while playing a part in the local, circular economy.

The Tetra Pod is a 64sqm home with all living amenities elevated 40cm off the ground, built from wood, steel, glass and recycled materials. The architecture aspired to blend the pod into its surroundings by making use of the recycled materials’ reflective characteristics, while strategically placed openings carefully frame view corridors.

Stilt Studios, the designers, believe they have the responsibility for multiple aspects, creating unique designs and reducing the environmental impact of our buildings as well as making these designs available to everybody. The architect was Alexis Dornier.
