The Ciudadela Llanos de Calibio complex consists of a four-story commercial center, 576 apartments, of which 384 apartments are EDGE-certified. Located on the outskirts of the city of Popayán just south of Cali, Ciudadela Llanos de Calibio is surrounded by retail stores, supermarkets and restaurants, and is also near to public transportation. The project’s ideal location offers convenience to its residents, but also the tranquility of open green spaces to enjoy nature.
Designed by Luis Henry Paz, the apartments at Ciudadela Llanos de Calibio conserve energy and water, allowing residents to save money on their utility bills. The building’s external shading devices and natural ventilation eliminate the need for air conditioning. Each apartment also has low-flow showerheads and faucets to reduce water use. The developers of Ciudadela Llanos de Calibio, Grupo Constructor Calibio S.A.S., also carefully controlled the amount of concrete during construction of the building’s internal and external walls, contributing to the reduction of embodied energy in materials by 59%. In addition to these resource-efficient features, Grupo Constructor Calibio S.A.S. implemented several sustainable construction practices to minimize harm to the environment such as the separation of waste during the construction phase.
