La Rinconada is 12-home residential complex in Tumbaco, a community just southeast of Quito. Each home in the community will include its own large green space that provides privacy to residents. The community will also include a variety of amenities including a communal house for meetings and green areas for the recreation of children.
Homeowners will benefit from lower utility bills as all units reduce energy and water usage through insulation of the roof and external walls, LED lighting, dual-flush water closets, low-flow plumbing fixtures and more.
La Rinconada is being developed by Fausto Marcelo Acosta. The homes will be built by MAMARAL, a construction company in the region. MAMARAL incorporates resource-efficient technologies into its projects to help transform the built environment in Ecuador.
La Rinconada has received a preliminary EDGE certificate from GBCI.
Predicted Savings of EDGE Certification
Less Embodied Energy in Materials
Reduced window to wall ratio, insulation for the roof and external walls, energy-saving lighting in internal and external spaces, and lighting controls for the corridors and staircases.
Dual-flush water closets and low-flow showerheads and faucets for kitchen sinks and washbasins.
Concrete filler slab with polystyrene blocks for the floor and roof, and medium weight hollow concrete blocks for internal and external walls.
*Part of the energy efficiency percentage may be associated with virtual energy for comfort depending on the presence of heating and cooling systems. Note that virtual energy does not contribute savings to utility bills.
