The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, today celebrated the successful close-out of the Designing for Greater Efficiency (DfGE) programme in Ghana, marking a significant step forward in the country’s transition toward low-carbon, resource-efficient buildings.

The new sustainable hotel has earned preliminary EDGE Advanced certification from IFC, and will feature 180 rooms with a minimum of 40% reduction in energy use.

Built using the IFC EDGE green building tool, the 237 Garden City apartments feature studio, one-, and two-bedroom units that emphasize energy and water efficiency, cutting long-term costs for residents. But this isn’t just about finding cool projects. The bigger challenge is creating a market where local capital feels safe. The IFC is also working behind the scenes, advising governments on policy and pushing for things like EDGE green-building certifications to make assets more transparent and attractive to local pension funds.
