Choose Your Level of Certification
There are three choices for EDGE green building certification. Use the EDGE App to achieve at least 20% savings in water and materials, then select your target for energy efficiency to match one of the following levels:
0%
LEVEL 1: EDGE Certified
Enter your project in the EDGE App and earn a minimum of 20% savings across energy, water, and embodied energy in materials to become EDGE certified in sustainable architecture.
Requirements
20% or more savings in energy, water and embodied energy in materials.
Timing
At preliminary and final certification stages.
Renewal
Not required.
Cost
Registration and certification fees.

LEVEL 2: EDGE Advanced (Zero Carbon Ready)
Set your project apart by earning EDGE Advanced certification, gaining recognition in eco-friendly construction and sustainable building design through project studies, certificates, award submissions and more. Projects at this level are also recognized as Zero Carbon Ready and align with net-zero building standards.
Requirements
EDGE certified with 40% or more on-site energy savings.
Timing
At preliminary and final certification stages.
Renewal
Not required.

Registration and certification fees.

LEVEL 3: Zero Carbon
Join the global initiative for new buildings to be zero carbon by 2030 and all buildings to be zero carbon by 2050. For additional information, access our How to Apply for EDGE Zero Carbon Certification Guide.
Requirements
EDGE Advanced with 100% renewables on-site or off-site, or purchased carbon offsets to top off at 100%. All energy must be accounted for, including diesel and LPG.
Timing
At least one year after final EDGE certification with 75% occupancy, when operational data must be submitted.
Renewal
Every four years with 100% renewables and every two years with purchased offsets.
Cost
Approximately $1,000, depending on certifying partner (in addition to registration and certification fees).

Certify Your Green Building Project
Achieve internationally recognized EDGE green building certification and showcase your commitment to green sustainable architecture and eco-friendly construction. The process starts with registering your project and obtaining a preliminary EDGE certification at the design stage. After project completion, secure final EDGE certification to validate your compliance with green construction materials and energy-efficient practices. Existing buildings can proceed directly to final EDGE certification.

Registering your sustainable building is simple. Design your project in the EDGE App, then go to your dashboard. There you can choose a certifier, view their pricing, and register your project.

After registration, submit your documentation through the EDGE App to validate compliance with net-zero building principles and environmentally friendly construction materials. When you’re ready, go to your dashboard and initiate the certification workflow.
