Antananarivo International Airport
The Antananarivo International Airport connects the capital of Madagascar to the rest of the world. The airport is the primary hub for Air Madagascar and serves more than 10 additional airlines with direct flights to Kenya, France, Turkey and more. Antananarivo International Airport is part of the Ravinala Airports group, which comprises four domestic and two international airports within the country. The airport’s recent renovations were developed by CMBI, a joint venture between Bouygues Bâtiment International and Colas, with architectural design by Dubois & Associés. In addition to the goal of modernizing the airport, CMBI will also conserve natural resources, ensuring both a lower carbon footprint and reduced operational costs.
From hiring a 95 percent Malagasy workforce to taking precautions to minimize harm to the surrounding natural environment, CMBI ensured that the modernization of the airport will contribute to the sustainable development of Madagascar. The new airport now expects to host more than one million passengers per year and bring more tourism to the country. CMBI also plans to renovate Nosy Be, the country’s other international airport. As an independent company, Bouygues Bâtiment International expects to build green in other countries such as Benin, Côte d’Ivoire and Myanmar. The company is committed to certifying at least 80 percent of its projects in emerging markets. The Antananarivo International Airport has received final EDGE certification from thinkstep-SGS.
