Mzizi
Mzizi is a new high-rise development located in the sought-after Two Rivers mixed-use development in Nairobi, Kenya. The Two Rivers Development is a smart and sustainable center with a water treatment plant that will recycle 80% of grey water and a 1.2 MW solar plant, developed by Centum.
The 300-unit development will consist of two towers with a mix of one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments that will provide affordable rental units in the affordable housing market in Nairobi, Kenya and will be acquired and managed by International Housing Solutions (I.H.S.) Kenya.
Mzizi has received a Preliminary EDGE Certificate from Green Building Council South Africa.
Technical Solutions
Energy
Reduced window to wall ratio, reflective paint/tiles for roof, reflective paint for external walls, energy-saving light bulbs for internal and external spaces, lighting controls for corridors and staircases, solar photovoltaics covering 10% of total elecricitity use, and smart meters.
Water
Low-flow showerheads, low-flow faucets for kitchen sinks and washbasins, and dual flush for water closets.
Materials
In-situ reinforced concrete slab for floor and roof construction, machine-cut unpolished stone blocks for external walls, medium-weight hollow concrete blocks for internal walls, ceramic tile for flooring, and steel window frames.
